What is Country Kitchens

The Queensland Country Women’s Association’s (QCWA) Country Kitchens program is a health promotion program supporting communities across Queensland to adopt healthier lifestyle behaviours.

It is a partnership between the QCWA and the Queensland Government, funded through Health and Wellbeing Queensland.

The Country Kitchens program supports QCWA volunteer Branch and Supporter members, who already have a wealth of cooking knowledge and skills, with training and support to help improve the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders, particularly those living in rural, regional and remote locations.

The Country Kitchens team of Dietitians and Nutritionists provide a training PATHway and support QCWA members who volunteer to become facilitators of the program. Country Kitchens facilitators deliver health promotion activities in their local communities and partner with organisations such as schools, local councils and a wide range of community groups.

The QCWA’s Country Kitchens program is improving food and nutrition literacy, and importantly, influencing behaviour change at a grass roots level.

This is how the QCWA’s Country Kitchens program connects women with the power to heal their communities.

About Country Kitchens

Our Country Kitchens team work with volunteer QCWA facilitators across Queensland to engage communities to participate in a variety of localised, fun-filled activities, learning nutrition basics and cooking delicious, healthy meals.

Every activity promotes one or more of the Country Kitchens programs 5 key messages.

We also provide access to healthy recipes as well as other resources and public events.

About the QCWA

The Queensland Country Women’s Association is an active community of women who together improve the lives of people living in regional, rural and remote Queensland.

We are renowned for our great home cooks and handcrafts—but the QCWA is so much more than that.

It’s about friendship, community and connection.

With thousands of members and over 220 branches across our cities and in our remote communities, it doesn’t matter where you live; there’s a way for you to join in the fun, activities and feel connected to other women.

We are mums, grandmothers, single or married; we are women employed in the home or in the workforce; we are just like you.

Our facilitators are QCWA members who volunteer to learn new skills in nutrition promotion, food literacy and group facilitation techniques, enabling them to deliver the Country Kitchens program messages and activities within their communities.

The Country Kitchens Training PATHway includes online sessions as well as practical workshops, all designed to equip facilitators with additional skills to deliver a variety of healthy eating and lifestyle initiatives within communities. These initiatives are helping QCWA volunteers to improve health outcomes in their communities.
